Google Beefs Up Blogger

Talk about timing! ONE day after I finished my move to Wordpress, Google decides to update the much maligned Blogger platform *sigh*

Key features include:

  • Toggling your blog permissions to restrict viewing.
  • You can add post footers for your RSS feed to include e.g. RSS ads.
  • and yes CATEGORIES!

While categories are a no-brainer for any blog, I almost feel it’s a pity considering people like FreshBlog and all the other folks who dedicated so much time and effort producing workarounds to get categories. Entire online communities have been created in the quest of finding the perfect Category hack for Blogger, and now it’s all going to be pretty much irrelevant.

You can try it out now by creating a new blog (you will be able to merge in your old blogs in the future.) Things are certainly looking up for Blogger/Blogspot users.

Do I really regret moving? Nope. Nothing beats the freedom of your own domain/host, or the power of Wordpress customisation.

Conspiracy-theory-note: One day after I began my transition to Wordpress, this pinging service from Vinson in Singapore sets up for blogger.
