Learn to Type Faster Than Your Boss’s Secretary

My dad once told me that learning how to type was a solid investment for the future and I wish I had listened to him more…

I have a horribly bad habit of only using 6 fingers to type.  Fortunately, for slow-poke typists like me (I average 27 words a minute), there’s an open-source application in town called TypeFaster which helps out by teaching you to how to improve your typing speed and learn touch-typing.

It even comes with built in games, adjustable levels, and the ability to save progress to make things more interesting.

It also comes with a numeric keyboard trainer for all you budding accountants and bankers out there. What more could you ever want? :)

Liew: The game has nice 3d graphics… but it definitely isn’t as fun as Typing of the dead http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Typing_of_the_Dead

…but it’s arguably more functional in terms of helping to learn.

Thats like a simpler version of a program we used in elementary school. Not as fun, but I guess it does the job.

Holy shit 27 words a minute? How do you force yourself to type this blog? I’m just teasing though… Maybe you should invest some time learning Dvorak since it doesn’t seem like you have invested that much time yourself in learning to type faster. Just a thought.

OK, I stumbled across this site on April 9th., and I’ve decided to give it a go.
There are 15 different lessons in the TypeFaster application , and my target is to set aside 40 minutes every day.
I plan to spend 40 minutes doing lesson 1 for one day, then 40 minutes doing lesson 2 for two days, then spend three days doing lesson 3, and so on.
I reckon that this will take me up until 6th August, providing I don’t miss any days(which I plan not to).
I currently type at a very slow 15 words a minute (and I have to look at the keys!)
      Wish me Luck…

go to google.com and search “Mrs. Sandy Hayes” and then click on “keyboarding games” any of the links that come with that site are great for learning to type. I have 80+ words per minute. =]
