How to do an Online Background Check

pipl

Want to do a check on someone just need to be extra sure that they are who they say they are?

Yes, you could just ‘Google’ someone, but that would barely be scratching the surface.  Since most personal profiles, public records and other people-related documents are stored in databases and not on static web pages, most of the higher-quality information about people is simply "invisible" to a regular search engine.

Pipl is a free service which scans different websites and public profiles to collate a web profile about anyone you search for.  I did a quick vanity search on myself, and it snappily managed to find social networks profiles, web pages, and a few quick facts about me - neatly summarized, and for the most part - pretty accurate.

Have you ever run an online check on someone? Why did you do it?  Tell us in the comments!

Good info, I already try to search for my name and found 3 results related on my name, but all 3 are not a correct info about me, it about other person with same name like me. I already expected the result will not correct, anyway Iam not a famous man :)

@PC: Did you narrow your search down by city? But yeah I guess common names will always be an issue. Perhaps they need more input fields so you can be more specific with other info.

Pretty poor - I’m one of the top couple of folks on the web with my name, and it found only a couple of correct hits, even given my home town.

I think using background checks is a very effective and efficient way of finding out information both about yourself and others. Thanks for this insight!
