A lot of the great pics you see on this blog actually come from Flickr, and there are usually several steps involved in the process of actually getting the picture up on the site. This is how I usually do it:
- First, I’ll use FlickrStorm, which is my preferred search engine to find the picture I want
- Then I’ll click-through to the actual photo on Flickr, save the image, and get the image attribution details (yes I know- I forget this step sometimes)
- Then insert it on my site, and create a link with the attribution details
iFlickr is a free Wordpress plugin that streamlines this process nicely. Brought to you by the folks at Photopreneur, in a nutshell – it allows you to easily find free creative commons images on flickr directly from the Wordpress ‘write post’ section itself and insert them into your blog post while automatically putting the attribution link underneath. No going to multiple sites and performing multiple tasks.
Other features include:
- Customizable Attribution Text
- Custom CSS class on Attribution & Image
- Downloads the image to your server
- Custom naming of image filename and alt text
There are a few limitations to this plugin so be aware of them before you download it. If your hosting does not support direct image uploads from Wordpress ‘write post’ section, it will not work. Also, a little more documentation would have gone a long way as I was feeling a bit lost during the setup (After the setup – it was a breeze to use).
