How to you save the world and get free stuff at the same time? Well now you can do just that.
The mechanics are simple:
- Sponsor plants 99 trees via Mokugift in exchange for the rights to give something away on this site
- Readers get free stuff
Objective
Our aim is to plant 1,000 trees by the end of the year – and we need you to help us!
Sponsor Guidelines
Buy-in
- Each sponsor who wants to giveaway any product has to plant 99 trees first
- To plant 99 trees, you just need to send USD99 to my paypal account (Please contact me to indicate your interest, then I will send you my PayPal email). 99 trees is the minimum buy-in. You are encouraged to plant more than that if you can.
- I will bear all the PayPal transaction fees myself.
- I will give the money (ALL of it) to Mokugift which has a $1 to plant a tree program as part of their official partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
- I don’t get a cent, and the Mokugift will be addressed to you, so you know the trees are going to be planted :)
- The links to the website will be tagged nofollow as demanded by Google, so robots will not crawl through the link, but visitors will visit your site as usual
- All products to be given away will be vetted by me first so I can maintain the quality of these giveaways.
Sponsor’s benefit
- Each sponsor gets a FULL post dedicated to them. There will be a maximum of 3 sponsors a month (ie. a maximum of 3 posts a month for giveaways), so you will not be crowded out.
- Friedbeef’s Tech currently has thousands of uniques a day, and 5,000 RSS readers at the time of writing so you will get good exposure. Also, the site only gets updated every few days, so visibility of your giveaway would remain for a long time.
- The post will live on forever within the site, and has a good chance of being picked up by search engines because Friedbeef’s Tech is a PR6 site at time of writing.
- View the tree planting as a cheap CSR activity. Readers will appreciate your effort to plant trees, and warm to your product.

- You get to help plant trees. These giveaways work mainly because sponsors see the demand and exposure it brings them. The more you participate, the more you support this tree planting project. Who knows? Maybe next year this project may just be called the 100 Trees Giveaway Project.

Update: 21/3/2010: Because of demand, the blog is in danger of being inundated with giveaway posts. While interesting, giveaways should not cloud the purpose of this website which is to solve everyday problems with simple technology. As such, I have decided to raise the bar for all sponsors to plant 99 trees rather than 33 from April 1st onwards.
