How to Backup Facebook : 3 Free and Useful Tools

facebooklogo3d How to Backup Facebook : 3 Free and Useful Tools

What if one day, Facebook accidently deleted or banned your account for some reason or another?  What if a new social network comes along, and Facebook got shut down?  What if you decided to close your Facebook account, but don’t want to lose all the data you’ve placed there?  These scenarios may be highly unlikely, but they are very possible indeed.

Everything you put on Facebook resides there.  All your status updates, links, photos, notes – everything.  So, just like it’s good practice to backup your hard disk, it’s also good practice to have a plan ready to backup Facebook in case something bad goes down.  Here are 3 free tools you can take a look at to ensure your data stays safe.

1. How to backup Facebook to your hard disk

Fancy recreating Facebook on your laotop?  ArchiveFacebook is a Firefox addon which allows you to save content from Facebook directly to your hard drive and view them exactly the same way you currently view them on Facebook.  It does take some time to process though, because it will try to do a full-backup everytime – but it’s still very comprehensive, and extremely useful.

2. How to backup Facebook photo albums

Whether you’re trying to backup your own albums, or trying to easily grab a friend’s album for offline viewing, FacePAD is a Firefox addon which allows you to download entire Facebook albums with a click of a button.  You can also do this for fan pages and event pages as well.

3. How to backup Facebook to the cloud

backupify How to Backup Facebook : 3 Free and Useful Tools

Backupify is an amazing service which caters to backing up multiple services – Facebook being one of them.  Using Facebook connect, Backupify will regularly save all your photos, friends lists, events, links, notes, and statuses to the cloud.  The free version of Backupify can handle up to 2GB of storage.

Everything is stored on an S3 Amazon server and their privacy policy clearly states that any data you store on Backupify is yours, and they claim no right to it, nor do they look, sell, nor analyze it.  Also, if you’re extra paranoid conscious about safety, it can allow you to hook up your own S3 Amazon server instead of using theirs.

Would you backup Facebook?  Tell us in the comments :)

Picsync is also a great tool to keep your Facebook, Twitter and Twitpic pictures synchronized on your Dropbox account.
Instagram will also be supported soon or later.

I need to back up my business pages- that are linked to my personal page. How do i do that? FB only seems to allow me to back up my personal page.

Hi,

yes i will also definitely back up my Facebook Account but I've found another interesting tool! Click.to! It is for free and so cool!

There is a easiest way to take friends list backup without using any third party tool.

Follow these easy steps to take the backup of your friends list just in case your account is hacked or suspended.
1] Click on your name to go to your profile
2] Click on friends tab to view your friends list
3] Scroll down until you see all your friends names A-Z it might take some time depending upon no. of friends you have in your account
4] Once all the friends list is loaded press Ctrl+S
5] Replace the file name "profile.php" with something else like "my friends.htm" etc.
6] Save the file to your preferred location
7] It usually creates 1 htm file & the folder with same name as htm file containing all your friends current profile images & other data files
8] You can also keep htm file & folder together in a ZIP file for emailing purpose

Once you have created a fresh account just go back to that htm file & add all your friends one by one...

That's it you will be safe from any hackers & spammers attack by which your Facebook account could get blocked or terminated.

I have used Facebooks own backup tool several times, but if I want to just backup my Facebook images or albums I use www.fb-backup.co.uk it's free and fast.

Yes I really love it.

Backup album in zip can be done using "album downloader" at http://apps.facebook.com/facebooktools which is free, no download requires, secure and easy to use.
Other than backup, it can search any album, mail album to non-facebook friends in zip/HTML format, filter photos in which u or ur friends are tagged-in and finally it can do "copy-paste" of albums, i.e. in one click you can get photos from any facebook album in your album section.

I will definitely back-up Facebook.
I'm using Facebook's own back-up (it's a new feature just rolled out),
but I like those tools you listed, specially Backupify.

Thanks for that

Go to Account and click on account settings. You can change your name, username, email, password, linked accounts, privacy, account security and right above Deactivate Account, it should say Download Your Information. Click on Learn More on the right side. You should be taken to a page that says Download Your Information. A green button at the bottom says Download. Click it and everything is saved to your computer.

Great advice thanks! Shame I didn't do any of this before my account was disabled :( Live & learn

If Facebook was a top marketing tool for me, or full of photos that I may never seen again I would certainly back it up. I think for users that are focused on personal relationships, FacePAD would be the most important tool. For users that are focused on marketing and business, Backupify would be the way to go as it can probably make a new backup each week or however often someone needs the backup. ArchiveFacebook is going to be the last option for anyone because it takes forever and would be used less often than the other two options. You'd want to use Archive Facebook maybe once or twice a year. So, depending upon your Facebook purpose you may only use one or all three.

Great input! Thanks for that insiGht Kingsley
