We’re into a new year – a time for new resolutions, new hopes and new dreams. What better way to kick off the new year by helping those in need? Here are some of my favorite picks…
1. Good Tree

Every time you make a search on GoodTree, you generate about a penny per search which you can redirect to charities of your choice. It’s only a small amount – but it adds up over time. Multiply all that by all the GoodTree users, and together it has the ability to make a serious difference in the world.
All of the leading search engines contribute to the results: Google, Yahoo, MSN, and AskJeeves, so search quality is not compromised. To top it off, it also sports an AJAX start page as well. It’s not a very good start page though – when compared with seasoned products like PageFlakes (aff), but then again – other start pages don’t directly help charities.
2. Charity Navigator
The best decision is always an informed one. There are a ton of charities and good causes on the Internet. Some, while well meaning, are not well managed. Charity Navigator will evaluate organizations, rate them, and let you know what’s going on behind the scenes so you know if your donations are being put to good use. More than that, it offers a fantastic resource for tips and guides to volunteering and charities.

3. The Hunger Site

The Hunger Site has been around since the early days of the web. That however has not stopped it from being a continued driving force for charity online. It make money every time directed towards charity, every time you click on a sponsors ad. Check out its sister sites as well dedicated to other causes like Breast Cancer.
4. Day Tipper

Day Tipper is a site where anyone can contribute tips on just about any topic – and get paid for it. It does also, give you an option to channel the payments to charity. So, help others by sharing your knowledge, and at the same time – help the disadvantaged as well. You can read a review of a site here.
5. Global Rich List

Think you’re badly underpaid? Check yourself out on the Global Rich List, and you’ll think again. Knowing where we stand relative to the rest of the world makes us just a little more grateful for whatever we have in life. After you realize how ‘rich’ you really are, you can make a donation on the same page.
If you liked these free services, you’ll love part 1, and stay tuned for part 3 :)
How do you plan to save the world?

Thanks for spreading the word about GoodTree! We’re just a few people, but we hope to make a big impact. We are busy adding new features, starting a blog of our own, preparing to publish financials for transparency, and working with the charities to increase the GoodTree reach. Thanks again, and we look forward to having you back to the site. Together, we can make a difference!

Thanks for the heads up Susan… Seems like the slow rate of publishing and payout is causing a big stir on the net. I wouldn’t exactly call ’scam’ just yet, but we’ll wait and see what happens with them.

Not so sure Day Tipper is a “scam” but the first 10 tips I submitted were all “rejected”, much to my surprise! They were my own tips and some with great humor as well, yet many of the other tips I read that were accepted from others I’ve read on the Internet on other sites, or they were common knowledge. It really seemed odd that they rejected all 10 of my first tips especially since I also focused on good keywords and attractive titles for the tips. I won’t be submitting any more as it was a complete waste of time on Day Tipper! :-( Thanks for letting me share my beef!
