Save a life with an Ipod ( First Aid Podcasts )

Two UK based hospitals (St. Johns, Sussex Hospital) have created small mp3 files to carry around that teaches you how to perform CPR, treat burns, shock, fractures and other basic first aid. Now you can carry with you an audio equivalent of a first aid guide wherever you are.

Sounds good, but you should of course try to listen to the files BEFORE an incident occurs to avoid sticky situations like this…

If you visit the St. John’s Hospital site (recommend over the other one), you also have the option of receiving them by podcast, which means whenever they release a new first aid tip, you can set it up to automatically download to your computer. File formats currently available are in MP3, AAC and Real.

My only gripe? This effort could have been so much better if proper shownotes (text) were appended to the audio files so I could have the option of also reading it with my player. (If anyone knows how to add them manually, please drop me an email or leave a comment)

Ironically ipods themselves may turn out to be a safety hazard if you’re openly carrying one. Reports of ipod related muggings and murder have resulted in police in some areas calling for people to stop wearing the iconic white headphones in public.

On second thoughts, maybe this article should be called “Save a life with a Creative Zen”.
