
Google has just launched a free service which overlays Google News with it’s own search volume called Google Trends.
This tool has useful marking implications when tracking buzz over time, as it provides quick context and possible answers like to questions like:
- Why has interest in my product spiked?
- Are more people trying to find information on my product?
- Is the hype from competition overshadowing interest in my product?
- Where is the buzz coming from? Which country? Which city?

Bear in mind Google Trends is still a Google Labs service which means it’s in an experimental phase, based on a portion of search results, but if properly refined, can be an extremely potent marketing tool in the future.
